Read More 2018 | January Reads | Hearth and Hammer Candles

One of my resolutions for 2018 is to read more. I want to read at least 2 books per month, which, if you have kids, can be quite a task. As a mom, it’s vital for me to not lose sight of the things I love, and reading is one of the things that has always brought me happiness.

I tend to either go for the murder mystery or some sort of a romantic novel, but I’m planning to open myself up to new genres this year as well.

I started the year off with The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman. I absolutely loved it! It was an easy read, but kept you hanging on for the end. If you’re turned off to witchery/sorcery, this book isn’t for you, but I found it super fascinating and intriguing. Not that I’m into witchery, but just the story line was very intriguing! There’s a little bit of mystique as well as romance and tragedy. I would compare it to one of my favs, The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. Both MUST reads, if you ask me.

I bought The Magic of Motherhood, because I had been seeing it in the hands of a lot of moms I follow. So glad I got it. Definitely not a “sit and read it in one night” kind of book, but more like a devotional type of read, where you read maybe one chapter a day or just for a pick me up. A lot of really great, encouraging words and thoughts from other moms who have been there. If you’re a mom, this book is a must!

All is Not Forgotten by Wendy Walker was my second pick for the month. I have to say, I literally just saw it advertised on Pinterest a few times, and then picked it up when I saw it at Target. I honestly had no idea what it was about, so when I got into the first few pages of the book I was taken aback. It’s a heavier, hot topic read, about a girl who is viciously raped and then given a drug to forget the details, yet still knows it happened to her. It goes through the following months of living with the torture of not knowing, but still having lived the tragedy, along with her family members and how they were affected. I will add that the perspective of the narrator was unexpected and unique to me. It wasn’t a quick read by any means, as it jumps back and forth between characters, but I’m glad I stuck it out to the end. Would recommend.

And if you’re a book lover I have to tell you about these fantastic literary candles by Hearth & Hammer. I’m obsessed with candles so to bring these two things together is pure genius. Nothing better than curling up with a blanket, a great book, next to a delicious smelling candle. My favorite is the Café Au Library. Smells like walking into your favorite coffee shop! Aged Page is also great, and Signal Fire is fantastic, that’s Eric’s favorite! The shop is currently on leave enjoying their new baby, but as soon as they’re back open, I’ll be letting you know, and hopefully be getting a coupon code for those interested!!

I’d love to hear what you’re reading to add to my reading list for the year. Comment below and subscribe to the blog to stay up to date on my reading list every month.

I am very passionate about my life as a mother, and I just want to portray the beauty of motherhood through my words and photos here on my blog. So pour yourself a hot cup of coffee or a big glass of wine, snuggle up under a big cozy blanket and stay awhile.

If you are ever interested in a specific topic that you would like to be seen discussed here, I would love to hear about it. Feel free to message me at any time.

I am also now booking commercial photography and local portrait sessions for the year of 2018.
